How Do You Do? How do you Email?
Please pardon my interruption, but I noticed you from the other side of the Web and I was curious if I can buy you a drink. And by the way, how do you email?
I know it’s a terrible pickup line. And no, I have never followed up a pick up line with a discussion about email. In fact, I really don’t throw out many pick up lines. But “How do you email” is a question that I ask many people I meet. There are so many ways to email; most people have multiple accounts; and I am genuinely curious how the average user manages her many inboxes.
How do you email? Do you login to each account separately through each provider’s webmail client? Do you use an email client application, like Outlook, Thunderbird, or Lotus Notes? Do you forward all your email accounts to a single inbox? Do you use your Blackberry or iPhone?
I haven’t conducted research that you could necessarily call “scientific”, but I have asked this question many times. It turns out that the majority of email users choose to login to each account separately. I find this interesting because it sounds like a burden—an inefficient way to utilize a tool that is supposed to make communication more convenient.
So how do you email? Let me know. Maybe we can talk it over a drink.
Great post! I actually use Outlook for most of my email accounts, but i purposely don’t integrate my less important accounts. I do this because i was getting so many newsletters and spam in my non-crucial accounts and the sheer number of messages being POP’d was slowing down Outlook. So every week or so, i have to login to my Hotmail to read messages. This actually sucks because i get so many messages and i don’t have time to read them all. I should probably check that account more often. But i usually forget; its just not a priority. Any solutions?
Outlook is horrible. Lotus Notes is not any better. I prefer to use online sites like gmail or hotmail. I have several gmail accounts and it is annoying to logout and in of each one. Why can’t Gmail provide seperate folders for each account? Does anyone know of any other solutions?
I have 5 email accounts and have not yet found an effective way to keep tabs on all of them. I really only use 3 accounts on a regular basis and check my other accounts once every two weeks or so. It would be nice to have a single place to access all of them. I don’t have Outlook or Lotus Notes. I tried Thunderbird, but I couldn’t figure out how to add my hotmail and yahoo accounts. So i stopped using it. I check my messages by logging into each individually; which is somewhat inconvenient. What is the solution? Anyone?
